We tested the 100-foot Bionic Steel garden hose, which also comes in 25- and 50-foot lengths. This garden hose is flexible and lightweight to move around your yard, weighing in at about three pounds. It's light enough that my five-year-old son has no problem carrying the hose and moving it around to water our plants.
Because of its stainless steel design, the Bionic Steel garden hose does not kink, crack or coil. Now, it does claim to be crush-resistant because it's made from 304 commercial-grade stainless steel. During our testing, we decided to test out that claim and quickly debunked it after running over the hose with a large SUV.
However, given the flat spot, the hose still functioned properly, and we were able to bend it back into shape with a pair of pliers. We don't recommend leaving this stainless steel hose in the driveway where it can potentially get run over, but just know that if it does, it doesn't seem to hinder the performance any.
One advantage a stainless steel hose has over an expandable garden hose is that it doesn't snag, puncture or rip on rocks, sticks, mulch and other sharp objects that may be in your yard. Expandable hoses tend to be wrapped in fabric that, at least in our testing, is prone to snags and rips. A durable exterior like stainless steel is resistant to that kind of wear and tear that happens under normal usage.
One thing to keep in mind is that you should avoid using hot water in this hose, as the exterior could become hot to the touch. However, it's not common to use hot water in a garden hose, so this is more cautionary advice than anything else.
When we tested the Bionic Steel garden hose in sunny Florida, we found that, even after being left out in the heat, the stainless steel wasn't too hot to handle. It was no hotter to the touch than our rubber garden hose.
If you’re looking for a garden hose that will last you for years to come and is available in multiple sizes, the Bionic Steel garden hose is one of the best.
