8 Most Expensive Items Left in Ubers

Every year, Uber releases its Lost & Found Index. The list of forgotten items is filled with some of the most outrageous things you can imagine.

From food to live pets, people have left just about everything in the backseat of a rideshare, and Uber drivers delight in the quirky — and sometimes costly — things that are left behind. The 2023 list lives up to the hype with things like "16 oz of fake blood" and a fog machine being reported lost.

In addition to naming the most common and most unique lost items, it also calls out the "10 most ‘forgetful’ cities. Jacksonville (Fl), San Antonio (TX) and Palm Springs (CA) round out the top three. The index also shows that the weekends tend to be the "most forgetful days" of the week, with April 5 and April 9 taking the cake for the year.

Because inquiring minds want to know, we searched the list for eight of the most expensive items that have been left behind in Ubers. The results serve as a good reminder to make sure you not only have your wallet and keys but also your pets before you bid your driver farewell.

The Lost & Found Index notes that phones are the second most commonly forgotten item. The pricey product can set you back $800 or more, and that's for an older model. Luckily, advanced security features on newer phones make them harder to hack and easier to track. But it is still a pretty big headache if you leave it behind.

It may be hard to fathom, but live animals are routinely left behind in rideshares. Uber notes that they have had a wide variety of pets forgotten, including turtles and hamsters. The priciest of the bunch? A toy poodle. Thankfully, all of these furry friends were returned to their owners.

While jewelry ranks as the 6th most commonly forgotten item, it was a rider in Saudi Arabia that lost more than they bargained for. As shared in the "Riders Around the World" section, one unlucky person lost a "large diamond earring." While it doesn't specify just how "large" this diamond earring was, even modest .31-carat ones will cost you $1,950.

Clothing is the number one most common thing that people forget when hopping out of an Uber, but it seems a little odd that someone would leave with only one shoe. Unfortunately, that very thing happened to one unfortunate soul (or perhaps sole). The rideshare company said that last year, "one Gucci loafer" was reported as lost. It's unclear what type of Gucci loafer it was, but no matter what, it's going to set you back $860 or more.

Undoubtedly some of the items left behind in an Uber have a great story behind them. Take the person who left a unicycle. It lends itself to so many questions. Like why someone had a unicycle, to begin with, and where they were going with it. And who knew just how expensive unicycles could be? Even a seemingly basic one will cost you around $145.

There are several things on the list that beg for a more detailed explanation. One thing that probably wasn't on someone's Uber Lost and Found bingo card was a bidet. A bidet attachment, which costs around $40, makes a little more sense, but a full-on bidet toilet seems mind-boggling to carry around. It's not only curious, but it's also costly. A new bidet toilet runs just over $1,000 on average.

Called the "Rolls Royce of seafood," bluefin tuna is some of the best fish around. It's often used for sushi and other delectable delights. One person, however, is likely in a whole lot of trouble after leaving a full slab of the seafood gold on the floorboard of a rideshare. Hopefully, the driver found it quickly to avoid what would have been a most unpleasant smell.

Any new parent knows that a breast pump can be a lifesaver. The magic little device can help alleviate discomfort and provide your little one with nourishment. While there are inexpensive manual ones on the market, they can also cost you thousands to get the cream of the crop. As noted by Babylist.com, hospital-grade pumps will cost you around $1,000 or more, while an electric one will run you approximately $200.
